Imperial HFRR is a computer controlled reciprocating oscillatory friction & wear test system which provides a fast, repeatable assessment of the performance of fuels & lubricants. It is particularly suitable for wear testing of relatively poor lubricants like diesel fuels, and for boundary friction measurements of engine oils, greases & other compounds.

The system is entirely controlled by an IBM compatible PC (Pentium PIII 750 MHz), via a custom electronic interface and comes with a variety of test specimen geometries; Point, line & area (the user MUST specify the materials required while ordering). Once the specimens have been loaded the rest sequence is completely automated with all its parameters set by the menu-driven control software. The software pre-heats the specimens upto the test temperature then starts the test, controlling .Load, Frequency, Stroke length/Amplitude & temperature to very precise limits.

It also times and logs friction coefficient, Temperature & Specimen Contact resistance at user defined intervals.

1. The mechanical unit uses an ELECTROMAGNETIC DRIVE to oscillate the upper test specimen against a fixed lower plate/specimen. The digital control system, absence of bearings & sliding components in the mechanical unit ensures absolute repeatability of stroke length & frequency. Accurate Platinum RTD temperature probes are used for specimen and safety cut-out temperature measurements.

2. For on-line wear monitoring system a LVDT is incorporated with an accuracy of 0 to 1 mm with a resolution of 0.2 .m.

3. Comes with a Peristaltic pump with adjustable flow (0.02 ml/min to 0.2 ml/min) of test lubricant for DRIP / SPLASH arrangement. Collected data is displayed on-line/Real time in graph form as the test proceeds. It is continuously updated and saved on the hard disc and can be easily re-called & printed. Wear Scar dimensions & operator.s comments can be recorded to provide a complete hard copy of each test.
